Football Free Fridays!!!!

23rd March 2014:

Football Free Fridays are still going strong, judging by these photos!

30th March 2014:

Football Free Fridays took on a new twist recently with the addition of a couple of new activities. The skipping challenge has been going for the past few weeks and there is a winner for each class each week. It is great to see everyone trying it out and really improving on their score as they practice.

Last Friday our new "hoppers" got their first outing in the yard, and they were a great success. Everyone from junior infants up was able to use them, and there were some great races up and down the yard. It was great fun!

On your marks, get set, GO!!!!!!!

29th November 2013:

Our very first Football Free Friday got off to a great start today. From now on Friday is going to be a day where there is no football in the yard, and we will take part in some great other activities instead. Today we played with brand new hula hoops, skipped on our own and in groups with skipping ropes, jumped over hurdles and through ladders, threw javelins as far as we could, and followed an activity trail in the yard. Everybody had great fun enjoying the different activities and it got us all moving, which is the most important thing. The teachers and SNAs also reported less football-related injuries in the yard, which makes their job easier! Keep an eye out on the Active noticeboard and the blog to see what is planned for next week.

This month in PE we are focusing on the strand of dance. We have been learning how to do The Ping Pong Dance, and how to use our bodies to make lots of different shapes and movements. Here's a few photos of Second and Third Class in action:

12th November:

On Friday we went on our annual school sponsored walk, and this took place around the grounds of nearby Teagasc. The whole school gets involved in this fantastic activity, and it was great to see young and old pupils out enjoying the fresh air and getting some energetic exercise. Mr Fahy set a terrific pace at the front, and we certainly all benefitted. Well done to all and don't forget to get out walking yourselves at home whenever you get the chance.

Cían Doyle won the race
