New Active School Committee

This year we have a brand new Active Flag Committee, with some members from last year staying on and some new members being appointed. The committee members are Niamh, Aaron, Ryley, Trystan, Kaylem and Dearbhla. You will notice them around the yard wearing their badges, especially on Fridays where it is their job to look after all the equipment. In case you don't know them, here they are:

The very best of luck this year guys!

Sponsored walk

Our annual sponsored walk took place last Thursday on the grounds of Teagasc. As usual it was a great success and the junior infants, who were taking part for the first time, really enjoyed themselves!

Supertroopers/Active homework

From Monday October 6th we will be taking part in the Supertroopers program, where we will have a different activity to do for homework each night. Every child will get a journal which will outline what the activity for that day is, and will also have lots of good information on healthy eating, hydration and sleep. Now we can enjoy doing our homework for a change!

Note for parents:

Dear parents,

As part of our Active Flag activities, this year we are taking part in the Supertroopers program. This is a program that aims to increase the amount of physical activity that our children engage in. Supertroopers provides a wide range of different activity ideas, all of which are outlined in a handy journal, as well as providing information on nutrition and healthy eating.  The idea behind it is that children perform an activity for a few minutes each evening as part of their homework. This will help them to achieve the 60 minutes of physical activity per day that is recommended for children.

From Monday October 6th, Supertroopers will be a part of each child’s homework each night. The journal will outline which activity is to be done and how to go about it. I understand that not all activities will be practical, or indeed possible, for all, but I would ask that you as parents encourage your child to perform the activities to the best of their ability, and that you help to adapt the activities where necessary. You will also need to sign the journal each week to say that the activities have been completed.

Finally, there is a short survey that Supertroopers would like you to fill out before you begin the program. There is an error in the address given in the letter, so please ensure that you go to surveymonkey/s/supertroopersbaseline when completing the survey.

Should you have any questions at all about the Supertroopers program, please don’t hesitate to ask me.

Thanking you for your help,

Mr Kennedy
