On Thursday 11th of September @ 3:00, St.
Nicolas of Myra N.S, played a senior match v Eastwall. The game was held in
Fairview Park and the weather was fantastic. Just as the match was about to
kick off we were very unlucky to lose our super goalkeeper Trystan Donohue, to
injury. Luckily, Alex Barlow (injured)
stepped up and was a fantastic replacement on the day.
The first half was an even affair between the teams,
with both teams scoring a few goals and winning plenty of ball. Conor and
Kaylem, despite being shorter than the opposing midfield, were winning the ball
around the middle and passing great ball into Dean, Khevish and Keith,
resulting in scores. Conor himself was doing a lot of running up and down the
field and was rewarded when he scored a cracker of a goal after a long run down
the pitch and a dummy around the goal keeper. Dearbhla and Ty, both new to the
starting team, were excellent, and followed their players all over the pitch.
We went in at half time down by 2 points.
In the second half we came out all guns blazing.
Daniel came into the defence and was outstanding, dispossessing his player on
numerous occasions. However, it was the tall full back Lorcan Burke who really
shone on the day. Time after time, he burst out of defence with the ball,
driving it down field and clearing the danger. He also blocked down many balls
in defence and saved us from disaster on many occasions. Our fill in keeper for
the day, Alex, carried out his job excellently and made many wonderful saves.
Dean switched to midfield and himself and Conor worked excellently together,
running up and down the pitch, time and time again.
Unfortunately, in the dying minutes we ran out of steam.
We started to tire, while they pushed on and scored a few goals and points.
However, the team can be extremely proud of their effort. After losing so many
starting players from last year’s team, we are lucky to be able to replace them
with new stars, who carried out their jobs brilliantly. With a bit more
training, we feel that next weeks result will be a better one.
